My New Star Rating System

Hi!

I don’t know whether you guys hate the inaccuracy of my star rating system as much as I do but I realised it was time for a change. Earlier in the week I decided to start re-reading Obscured by C.M Boers. It was the first book I had ever received for a review and I think I was a little harsh on it, looking back. It made me think that my random gut-feeling way of grading books is way to easily swayed by my mood and other external factors, so I went hunting through other blogs to find a new way of rating that that could snatch up, alter a bit and then implement myself.

And I found Cat from Pages & Plots, who had been feeling similarly too me, that her rating system felt flawed. And she had found the incredible system I will be adapting on today. The Original is called Cawpile and it is by G from Book Roast and here is her video describing her system.

The basic premise of it is that you rate a book between 1-10 on 7 aspects: Character, Atmosphere, Writing Style, Plot, Intrigue, Logic and Enjoyment.
You then add these scores and divide by 7. These then fit into the following a Star rating categories:

0 — 1
1.1 — 2.2 ⭐
2.3 — 4.5 ⭐⭐
4.6 — 6.9 ⭐⭐⭐
7 — 8.9 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
9 — 10   ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I know this seems really complicated but it means you get an insanely accurate star rating system that will mean my reviews will be even better for you guys!
However as incredible as this is, I wanted to expand on it because I have some criteria that isn’t covered here. So here is my adapted version, Chawpiler:

Character – How much I liked the characters and their arcs
Humour – How funny it was. I like a book to lighten the dark stuff with humour so this is important to me.
Atmosphere – The world building, how believable it is.
Writing Style – How much I enjoyed their writing style
Plot – Was the plot good
Intrigue – did it have me on the edge of my seat, was it well paced?
Logic – How believable is it, not just with magical elements but even characters actions. Were they believable or done just to fit the plot.
Enjoyment – How much did I enjoy it
Relationships – How incredible was the romance. Anyone who reads my blog will know about my romance obsession and how crucial it is to whether I enjoy a book or not, therefore I had to give it it’s own category. Also, how were the other character relationships, romantic or otherwise.

Instead I will divide the added score by nine instead of seven and Ta Da! New star rating system complete! So, tell me below, do you think this is too convoluted or do you like how accurate it is? How do you rate your books? What kind of criteria does a book have to meet for you?
