Hi,
How are today? I’m good thanks. I’ve been in a good mood all week, and I think its a culmination of finally getting back into blogging as well as the fact I’m volunteering at the library over the summer and I’m literally spending hours alphabetising the books which is heaven to me! That is…until a child pulls out a ton of books from the section I just tidied and then leaves them on the floor.😑
Anyway, I’ve done this post a couple of times now HERE and HERE. I has seen it on Sepia Reads Blog (which I adore and you definitely should check out!) but I believe it was originally started by Wandering Worlds.
Rules:
What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:
If you’re using Twitter, don’t forget to use #FirstLinesFridays!
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
What woke me was the insistent beep-beep-beep of the little machine that was monitoring his dying heart. I opened my eyes slowly, and as always, he lay there watching me. I got up from where I was sitting and leaned in close to him, placing my hand on his cheek.
“Let go Jake, I understand.”
He struggled for breath and mumbled something I couldn’t hear. I smiled anyway.
“Go Jake. I’ll be fine, don’t hold on for me.”
The lone tear escaped from his eye and his breathing stilled. The monitors screamed their piercing sirens. I stepped back as nurses and doctors flooded the room, but I knew it was too late. He was gone and I was completely alone again.
What do you think? Incredible opener am I right?!?!?
The most important question though is…Would you read this? I want honesty in the comments below. Also can you guess the book?

And so, the book is… Fall from Grace (Mad World #1) by Christine Zolendz. I have talked about this book many, many, many times before because I adore it! Despite the opener not showing any signs of it this is hands down the funniest book I have ever read, like your face hurts because of how much you’ve been laughing and your throat is sore of the bizarre noises you made! It’s also extremely sad and poignant so that your eyes hurt from crying. It is just so gripping and unputdownable! The whole series is! I have read it quite a few times now and it only gets better! I really cannot recommend this enough! Although I do have to warn that it is a little explicit in the way of sex and touches briefly on suicide so it can be triggering if you are not into that. Otherwise I really think you need to read this, the romance is very hot, the characters are beautifully written and the blend of drama, relationships, mystery, paranormal elements and music is perfect! 5/5 stars from me. Anyway, here is the blurb:
I’m finally home after struggling through my brother’s illness and death. But, home is definitely a bit different. My best friend (the only person alive now that knows my secret) has a new boyfriend; and he has a friend. Shane Maxton: bad boy, tattooed rock god, eye candy extraordinaire. He is also New York City’s most arrogant, self-serving, son of a, well, a definite one-night stand kind of a guy. But, it doesn’t matter to me because I’ve spent my existence looking for the love of my life, my angel. And, there is nothing that Shane Maxton can do to change that.
So, without any prior knowledge, would you read this? Did you guess what it was? I enjoy these snappy and quick posts and the interaction from you guys. I hope you enjoyed, see you tomorrow 🙂

I was almost in tears reading those opening lines. Yes I would read this and I am going to add it to my TBR shelf on Goodreads so I don’t forget about it.
