What I am Reading vs What I Read

Hi guys!

How was your weekend? I hope it was great! Mine wasn’t the best but I got my Uni timetable for this year this morning to that perked me up a bit.
I saw Elodie from Ursa Reads do this and just thought it was such an amazing idea so I thought I would do it too! I only recently stumbled across her blog but I am already love her content and I really urge you guys to check her out. Basically the premise is I tell you about the book I am currently reading and compare it to the book I was reading this time last year and see how things compare. I thought it would be a good time to do this before I go off to Uni and stop reading books that I actually want to read and get stuck with lots of course reading instead. I hope you enjoy this, let’s jump into it!

What I am Reading?

Love & Other Disasters by Terri Jones. I got this via Netgalley and it comes out in a few months. Goodreads only has a blurb and no cover yet so you’ll just have to imagine one. It’s not my favourite read but it was okay – a 3 star. I do think it really sums up the kinds of books I have been reading recently however even though this isn’t my favourite example of the genre.

Blurb: Violet Murphy has just landed herself in a world of trouble. One minute she’s out on the town with her best friend, and the next, there’s a hot guy offering to buy her a drink. Normally, a man like that wouldn’t look her way. So…she panics. After a case of mistaken identity, a fake name, and way too much alcohol, Violet’s only hope of saving face is to never see his again. Too bad life can’t be that easy. J.P. Harper never expected to find himself down on his luck. After all, he’s always been at the top of his game, saving struggling businesses and being paid well to do it. But when his latest project turns into a nightmare, one with a half-million dollars missing, it’s his reputation that’s at risk of going under. But a familiar face among the staff sends him back to that night he can’t forget. Is that the same woman? With his career and heart on the line, J.P. sets out for answers. Can J.P. trust Violet and set aside that night to work together…or will their sparks ignite another disaster?

My Review: This was a decent read. The romance was super cute and the characters were really likeable! You really rooted for them and their development both as a couple but also as individuals. I liked the writing style and it was really funny. I loved all the family and work drama. The first 40% of this book was incredible. 5 stars! On the edge of my seat, totally enthralled, laughing till I cried, couldn’t put it down. It really should have ended there.
After that point, everything just was stretched out too long. Nothing new or exciting was happening and I got bored. I lost my interest in the characters and their development. The story stalled. The interest disappeared and I had to fight to finish it. I joke that I’m an impatient reader but this was just unbelievable. It genuinely felt like 5 books in one. Too many subplots that just didn’t quite work and just stretched things out unnecessarily. The romance plateaued and ultimately that’s what made me decide this was a 3-star read.

What I Read

Scars and Songs by Christine Zolendz. This is the third book in my favourite book series of all time! It is the first two books but from the perspective of Shane (aka my book-husband) This time last year was actually a reread of this book. As my favourite book series I obviously adore that book and I will probably reread it again and again for many years. I think it’s really unique because I’m not typically a massive fan of books that revolve around angels but this is amazing. Other than the fact it has a supernatural element I would say it’s actually rather similar to the books I read today – New Adult, Romances.

Blurb: Shane Maxton is front man for New York City’s popular rock band, Mad World. But he has secrets; he’s not what everybody thinks he is. He comes from an ancient world, from a different time, when angels walked among men. Read the story, through Shane’s eyes, of his forbidden love, his fall from grace and his inner turmoil from living with the irrational emotions of being human.
Disclaimer #1: This is the story of Mad World Books 1 & 2, Fall From Grace and Saving Grace, written through the point of view of Shane Maxton. IT IS THE SAME Love STORY of Grace and Shane. It’s just Shane’s turn to tell it to you, it’s everything you’ve read before and a whole lot more.
Disclaimer #2: This story contains rock and roll, angels doing naughty things, violence, cursing, drinking alcohol, substance abuse, sexual situations, and irritating scenes that will make you want to hurl your eReader or book out the window. It’s not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

My Review: I THOUGHT THE ENDING OF THE LAST BOOK WAS PERFECT?!?!!
I cried during the final never-before-seen chapters! It was magical, beautiful and captured the perfectness of this romance.
I loved this just as much as the two previous books.
Overall I rate it 4.5 stars because majority of this I had already read. But I can’t really hold that against the book as I knew that’s what this was when I begun reading it, it just meant it took me longer than he others cause there wasn’t as much surprise as the first time reading it.
Reread thoughts: STILL A FABULOUS SERIES THAT EVERYONE MUST READ!

So that’s all for today’s post! I hope you enjoyed this. I love looking back and seeing how much things have changed over the years. If you want me to do this again but for a two years ago or more I will happily do that – thankfully I have always been pretty dilagent with my goodreads so I have dates for everything. Anway, I hope you enjoyed and I will see you again tomorrow!

How often does your taste in genres change?
Are you a fan of rereading or not?
Do you like looking back and seeing how much things have changed or is that just something I enjoy?

  1. You’re so nice omg, thank you so much 💛💛
I’m not used to re-read, but last year I re-read one of my fav trilogy (The All Souls Trilogy) as a TV show was made, and I loved that feeling! I’d like to do it more often with old favorites, but there are just so many new books to read I don’t give myself time to re-read old ones…
