Top Ten Tuesday – Authors New to Me in 2020

Hi Guys!

How are you all doing? I am great. I started back at Uni yesterday and it was so nice to have a bit of a routine back. I didn’t realise how much I was missing it. I also started Shadow and Bone yesterday and I thought “Oh I’ll just read a few chapters before bed, just to get it started and then I’ll get an early night…” Well if that’s not the famous last words of every book reviewer/book fanatic out there!
It was suddenly 1am and I had 50 pages left to go but I stopped myself so my friend could catch up which I really now regret because I just want to read more but I need to wait haha. I was never a very patient person. Are you?
Anyway, I haven’t done a TTT post in a good few months and as soon as I saw this was the topic I knew I had to do it because this sounds like such a fun one to do and after getting in Netgalley again last year I discovered quite a lot of new authors.

If you don’t know, Top Ten Tuesday is a very popular bookish Meme run by That Artsy Reader Girl. It runs weekly (surprise surprise! on a Tuesday) and it covers literally every topic you could ever think of. As someone who loves a list, I think it’s super fun. Plus, a really great way to find of lots of bookish things very quickly. Let’s get cracking shall we?

1. Lana Wood Johnson

Technically, You Started It was the first book I read in 2020 and it started the year with a bang. It goes without saying that I had never read anything like Lana Wood Johnson’s writing and I haven’t read anything like it since. The whole novel was written in the form of a text conversation which is so fun and different and I am on the edge of my seat for whatever she writes next.

2. Ellen Raskin

The Westing Game was on my top 10 reads of the year list because I enjoyed it so much. Ellen Raskin is apparently quite a famous writer in American Schools for this book specifically but I had never heard of it until I bought it and I loved it. The writing was quite descriptive but also simple and fun so I can see why it was given to school kids. I don’t know of any other books that Raskin wrote but I am tempted to have a look.

3. Rae Kennedy

I read Rae Kennedy for the first time last year with her book To Be Your Last and really enjoyed her writing. I have since read from her again. To Be Your Only (The next in the series, but all are standalones) was actually my first read of this year and started 2021 off with a blast because I adored it. It’s definitely got a lot of 18+ content in them but they are so darn funny and so fun! Instant new favourite!

4. Rebecca Crunden

Rebecca Crunden contacted me quite near the start of the year and offered me the chance to read some of her books and I jumped at the chance and I really enjoyed the two that I read. She is definitely one of the lesser known authors on this list so I always like shouting her name because she definitely doesn’t get as much love as she should!

5. Cheyanne Young

Cheyanne Young is an author that snuck up on me. After completely forgetting that I had been gifted this book nearly 2 years prior to me actually reading it I had to say my expectations weren’t high and I was definitely felt the guilt to read it. But boy was I surprised. It was a fun read and a really sweet romance that I couldn’t put down. If that didn’t triple my guilt for making them wait so long for my review I don’t know what would haha. I know she has written quite a few other books so I am definitely wanting to add some more of her books to my TBR.

6. Kurt Dinan

I bet a lot of you would have been surprised if the author of my number one read this year hadn’t appeared on this list. Well fret not, the incredible Kurt Dinan is here. I cannot put into words my love for this book. The writing is a work of genius! You need to read it. Seriously, stop reading now and buy it because it is just unbelievable. You cannot regret reading it. I promise.

7. Jo Lovett

I read Jo Lovett’s simply adorable adult romance The First Time We Met in September last year and I just fell in love. It was so so so heart-warming and wholesome! The writing was hilarious and I adored the multiple POV’s. The character’s were so great and just overall I really loved this book and I cannot wait for what they write next!

8. Kathryn Amurra

Kathryn Amurra was another author who contacted me when her debut novel Soothsayer was coming out in exchange for a review. I read the day I got it and it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. The writing was impeccable and the romance was perfection. I am dying for the second book in the series (although I’m pretty sure it’s a standalone but set in the same place) but I have no idea when that is coming out.

9. Helena Dixon

Helena Dixon is the most recent author discovery last year that I enjoyed. I bought the first 3 in her Miss Underhay Mystery series after receiving the 4th on Netgalley. I read the first at the end of last year and loved it. I hope to get to the second one before the end of the month but we’ll see how it goes. It was a bit slow to start but once it got into it I adored it and the writing was really fun as I haven’t read many historical novels recently.

10. Leslie North

Last on the list but certainly not least is Leslie North. I had never read anything by her until September and I have read a total of 9 since. They’re all short romances with a lot of recurring plots but they are so fun and they put a smile on my face. She writes a lot and turns out a few trilogies every year so I am definitely on short on books of hers to read!
I haven’t done any standalone review posts for her books but most of them are scattered between my mini review posts if you are interested.
