My Top 5 Last Lines + I finally made a Bookstagram!

Hey all!

How was your weekend? I had ear-ache and tonsils the size of Jupiter for the entirety of it so I can safely say it was not my favourite weekend of all time although it was kind of productive because I got a lot of stuff prepped for my Uni classes and I also rearranged my bookshelf to make more space which was satisfying.

Those of you who read the title however will notice that I MADE A BOOKSTAGRAM!! I have been wanting to do this for AGESSSS!! Genuinely so long, but I finally did it and I’m loving it so far. Just like the book blogging community – everyone has been so sweet and supportive so if you are interested please join me over there for more bookish content!

Anyway, I got the idea for today’s post after having read one of the books on this list and thought damn the final line is just perfection! And it made me hunt through some of my other books to see how those books ended, long story short I found a few I liked and I compiled this list. I did something very similar to this a couple years ago where I did My Top 5 opening lines of a book (which will probably have changed since I did it 2 years ago but oh well). This will be in order of worst to best for once!
Also I feel like I need to give a bit of a warning, although I don’t think the final line can spoil a book too much there is always the chance that it does so I will say the name of the book first in case you want to avoid the final line. Anyway! Let’s jump into my list!

5. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

This is a brilliant read. It made me want to be a better person and I think all of the incredible and heartbreaking life lessons are really nicely summed up in the last few lines…(okay this one is a bit longer than the last few lines haha) and this is also probably the most spoilery of all today’s quotes as a warning.

When I read about things like these I wonder, Is she there? I wonder what she calls herself now. I wonder if she lost her freckles. I wonder if I’ll ever get another chance. I wonder, but I don’t despair. Though I have no gamily of my own, I do not feel alone. I know that I am being watched. The echo of her laughter is the second sunrise I awaken to each day, and at night I feel it is more than stars looking down on me. Last month, one day before my birthday, I received a gift=wrapped package in the mail. It was a porcupine necktie.

4. Untold (Lynburn Legacy #2) by Sarah Rees Brennan

If you read my blog often you always hear me ranting and raving about this series. It is amazing. I read it in 2017 and it is still one of my all-time favourite series. I considered the last line in all three for this list because I do love them all for different reasons – but ultimately this one won out because I remember how much I adored reading it at the time. The last book in the series was also a strong contender but it made far less sense without the context of the book so I decided on this one for the list.

“He’s not lost,” Kami said. Her voice was steadier than she’d thought it would be. “I won’t let him be lost.”

3. The Scam List by Kurt Dinan

This was my top read of last year and is one of my favourite stand-alone’s of all time. Boone is just such an awesome character and the writing is so amazing and I really feel that the last line totally captures the essence of the writing and of him as a character which is why I love it so much.

Of course, like Darby said, money gained from cons should go to a good cause, and I’ll make sure it does.
That’s exactly what I’ll so.

2. Alex Approximately by Jenn Bennett

I love this book, it was one of the first books I ever reviewed on my blog so it holds a special place in my heart for that reason as well as being just a kickass awesome romance. My best friend just finished rereading it so that’s probably why this one came to mind – but the last line is so fun and inspiring and just motivating I think.

1. Ruin and Rising (Shadow and Bone #3) by Leigh Bardugo.

This is the book that inspired this post because once you read this last line you will understand. It is just so beautiful. It genuinely made me cry. It walks the perfect balance between being profound for the reader but also not feeling weird or out of place for the character to think/say. It’s just perfection!

They had an ordinary life, full of ordinary things—if love can ever be called that.

That’s all for this Top 5. I hadn’t done a top 5 in a while and I missed them, if I think of any other topics I will add them to my to do list cause this was fun! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed.
