June TBR 2021

Hi all,

Happy Pride Month! Excited for June? I had a great reading month (18 books) in May but I’ve started off June in a bit of a slump. I picked up a new book last night so hopefully that breaks my slump. Because of this slump I don’t have a very ambitious TBR, I’m just going to read whatever I want to fix my slump – but there are a few books I know I will be reading so that’s why I’m doing this.

Currently Reading:

Like You Love Me by Adriana Locke. I started this last night and I hope it will fix my slump. So far I like the premise. The chemistry is off the charts so I hope it keeps it up!

I also have two books that I started but didn’t finish in May. First we have Everything I Know about Love by Dolly Alderton. I’m enjoying this but it’s non-fiction so I like to take my time with it and intersperse it with my fiction reading.

And then the other book I started was Spy for the Queen of Scots by Theresa Breslin. I’m liking this but it’s just quite slow to start. It’s reminding me so much of Reign at the moment, also because I know a decent amount about this time it feels like of repetitive in places but I’m sure if I knew less about the topic I wouldn’t find this an issue. It’s starting to pick up the pace so I’m excited to keep reading.

My Book Club Read:

This month’s book club read is Tryst Six Venom by Penelope Douglas. It’s a Sapphic high school bully romance so I am so excited to read this because that’s not usually something I pick up, I’m more of a MxM romance reader when it comes to LGBTQ+ romances so this will be a nice change – plus it’s Penelope Douglas!!

Marymount girls are good girls. We’re chaste, we’re untouched, and even if we weren’t, no one would know, because we keep our mouths shut. Not that I have anything to share anyway. I never let guys go too far. I’m behaved.
Beautiful, smart, talented, popular, my skirt’s always pressed, and I never have a hair out of place. I own the hallways, walking tall on Monday and dropping to my knees like the good Catholic girl I am on Sunday. That’s me. Always in control. Or so they think. The truth is that it’s easy for me to resist them, because what I truly want, they can never be. Something soft and smooth. Someone dangerous and wild. Unfortunately, what I want I have to hide. I cross the tracks every day for one reason—to graduate from this school and get into the Ivy League. I’m not ashamed of where I come from, my family, or how everyone at Marymount thinks my skirts are too short and my lipstick is too red. Clay Collins and her friends have always turned up their noses at me. The witch with her beautiful skin, clean shoes, and rich parents who torments me daily and thinks I won’t fight back. At least not until I get her alone and find out she’s hiding so much more than just what’s underneath those pretty clothes. The princess thinks I’ll scratch her itch. She thinks she’s still pure as long as it’s not a guy touching her. I told her to stay on her side of town. I told her not to cross the tracks. But one night, she did. And when I’m done with her, she’ll never be pure again.
